Biography
Savannah Tines is a well rounded artist studying at the University of Minnesota for her Bachelors in Fine Arts. Captivated by light and colour, the Minnesota-based artist captures ephemeral moments through her mesmerising abstract works; whether it's nontraditional objects, painting or india ink, printmaking to photography to sculptural work. Savannah's large-scale and gestural works defy dimensions and seek to interrupt and invade the spaces they occupy. Her long, looping brushstrokes seem to occupy a plane of their own—Savannah sees her paintings and projects as illusions and ideas, and canvas merely a physical support. The scenes Savannah creates are seemingly plucked from time and context, amplifying her distinctive non-narrative style. Through multimedia, Savannah’s works embody principles of abstraction in a lot of her works. Savannah took her first two formative years of art school at St. Cloud State University where she was able to hold her own solo exhibition and pass her portfolio review before transferring to UMN, where she’s expected to graduate around 2022. She also teaches art classes part time while in school as an afterschool program where art classes aren’t regularly offered.
